Community Connection for October 12, 2023

Things to celebrate…

After many declined application submissions for grants to support the funding of the Chamber of Commerce’s Main Street Park, we are excited to announce that we FINALLY got a yes! Kausha from the Chamber and Rebecca from Growing Small Towns presented the project to the Garrison Diversion Conservancy District board for their Recreation Matching Grant program at the end of September. Our project was awarded up to $26,000 for qualifying expenses and one of the big factors in our acceptance was the amount of money we’d already raised…this is due to the incredible generosity of our early donors! This winter, we’ll be working with the Girl Scouts to implement their pieces of this project, so we’re not done raising funds yet! If you’d like to donate to this collaborative community project, contact Kausha at the Chamber at 701.742.3508.

News to know…

Starting this week, Growing Small Towns will be featuring the artwork of 2 different artists: blown glass pieces from Jon Offut out of Fargo, and paintings from Stone River Art Productions out of Breckenridge, MN. We invite everyone to stop in during the Chamber of Commerce office hours: Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9 am - 5 pm and Thursdays from 9 am - 1 pm. This exhibit will be open and available from now until January. If you know a local artist who would love to showcase their work, don’t hesitate to connect them with Bailey at Growing Small Towns. You can email Bailey directly at hello@growingsmalltowns.org

Ideas to spread…

“If you want to money, ask for advice. If you want advice, ask for money.” We don’t know who to properly attribute this quote or advice to officially, but the first time we heard this was from our friend, Patrick Kirby, founder of Do Good Better Consulting in West Fargo, ND. So many of our community events and projects are being run by nonprofit organizations which tend to be driven by “asking for money”. It’s OK, and even advisable, to consider asking the people we think can support our project or organization for how they’d change, shift, or update the work that we ultimately need them to fund. People want to help; we just need to help them see their connection and alignment with our vision and mission.
