Community Connection for October 19, 2023

Things to celebrate…

Let's celebrate that our local eyecare office is open again! We are so excited about Be Thou My Vision, PLLC being open in Oakes! Dr. Larson and her office admin, Courtney, are SO friendly, warm, and great at what they do! We encourage everyone to stop by their office, say hello, and, of course, book your eye exams! We wish them the best as they ramp up their business over the next several months.

News to know…

On October 22 at 5 pm, we invite you to come out and celebrate the girls who participated in our 2nd Annual BIO Girls season here in Oakes! The 5k fun run will start right outside Growing Small Towns on Main Avenue and will follow the route below. We highly encourage you to show up, cheer loudly, make signs, or bring noisemakers! BIO Girls is a 12-week curriculum to help girls in grades 2-6 build confidence and self-esteem through lessons and non-competitive running. The girls have worked so hard over the past 12 weeks and this run is a fun way to end the season! Last year, we had a wonderful turnout from the community and we hope to see the same this year.

Ideas to spread…

“Don’t borrow trouble.” This is a shortened version of a slightly longer quote, but essentially, all this means is that there is enough to worry about today, so there’s no need to borrow trouble from tomorrow. This plays out in several ways; often, it comes in the form of needlessly worrying or fretting about the way something might go. Since that kind of thinking literally does nothing to change whatever the outcome may be, it’s borrowing trouble. Don’t spend precious energy today worrying about something that hasn’t even happened yet. Because it’s proven that many of the things we worry about, never actually come to fruition anyway.
