Agriculture serves an important role in the economy of Oakes and strongly supports agri-business goals for the state of North Dakota. Livestock production in the area includes beef and dairy cattle, sheep, hogs, buffalo, elk and emu.

Oakes offers full veterinary care service and supplies for both large and small animals. A haul-in facility, clinic with in-house lab, grooming, boarding and 24-hour call services are available.
