Hall of Fame Induction

The Oakes Public Schools Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held on Monday, Aug 30, 2010 at 7pm in South Gym on campus of Oakes High School. The induction ceremony is part of Coronation activities for OHS. In 2004 the Oakes School Board advanced an idea to recognize alumni, teachers, support staff, and friends of the Oakes Public Schools. The Board approved the formation of a hall of fame.

In 2005 Stuart Munsch was placed into the hall of fame as its first inductee. Phil Hansen, Edythe Skarp, Mike Podolak, George Rempfer, Don Peitz, and Gerald Ringdahl have since been added. Monday night they have added Ma Bailey, Tim Nichols, and Stan Hokana.

Teacher at Oakes High School 1928-1949 Ma’s ability as a teacher cannot be questioned. She has been a confessor to the heavy laden, a fount of knowledge to those who seek enlightenment and a just disciplinarian to some few in ignorance of the meaning of rules and regulations. Her years of unstinted service, unfailing promptness and her motherliness have increased the obligation of teaching far beyond repay.

Tim Nichols

Graduated from OHS 1968. While a student at OHS, Tim was a standout athlete in football, basketball and most notably track & field. He is a three time state first place finisher in the high hurdles, holds the retired state record of 14.9 seconds in the high hurdles, and is a current OHS record holder. In 1966 Tim and fellow teammate Stan Hokana brought home to OHS its first State Title in track. This was also the first State Title on record for OHS in any sport. At the state meet Tim placed 1st in the high hurdles and 2rd in the low hurdles.

Stan Hokana

Graduated from OHS 1967. While a student at OHS, Stan was a standout athlete in football, basketball and most notably track & field. He won seventeen championship conference, regional and state medals during his high school career and is a current OHS record holder. In 1966 Stan and fellow teammate Tim Nichols brought home to OHS its first State Title in track. This was also the first State Title on record for OHS in any sport. At the state meet Stan placed 1st in the low hurdles and 3rd in the 100 yard dash. Stan raised his family in Oakes and over the years has been a big supporter of OHS athletics. He was the track starter for many years and was very instrumental in building the OHS Centennial Track.
